What changed for Astra Militarum in 11th edition
11th edition is a friendly re-pricing for the Astra Militarum: of the sheets that moved, well over twice as many came down as went up, and four new units joined the ranks. Most of the roster held its price, so if you played the Guard in 10th your collection plays the same, with a little more armour and a few more bodies for the same total. Net, the regiments came out cheaper.
Summary
- 50 units repriced, 4 new, 20 unchanged
- Biggest drop: Commissar Yarrick (-40)
- Biggest rise: Commissar Graves (+15)
- Detachment Points: 2 / 3 / 3 at Incursion / Strike Force / Onslaught
Detachments
The Guard field eleven detachments in 11th, from Combined Arms and Hammer of the Emperor to Bridgehead Strike and Siege Regiment, and two of them are new arrivals. Each of the eleven now carries a price in Detachment Points: a Strike Force game charges 3, Incursion 2 and Onslaught 4, taken from the same pool you spend on tanks and infantry. Pick the detachment first and pay its fee, then fill the regiment. That is the one new habit; the rest of army-building works as it did.
New in 11th: Abhuman Auxiliaries, Designation Force. None removed.

Points changes
A clear net cut: of the units that were re-priced, fifteen came down against six that rose, while the bulk of the roster stayed put and four new sheets arrived. The savings land squarely on the artillery and armour. The Basilisk dropped 25 (140 to 115), the Deathstrike came down 20, the Field Ordnance Battery 20, and Lord Marshal Dreir shed 25. The handful of increases are minor. Several units are priced per squad size, so cost the size you field before you tally.

Frequently asked questions
Did the Astra Militarum get better in 11th edition?
On points, yes, and in the right place for the Guard. Two Basilisks and a Field Ordnance Battery are 70 points cheaper than in 10th, which buys more bodies or most of another gun. Four new units add options that did not exist. With fifteen drops and six small rises, few lists will cost more than they did, and an artillery park will cost noticeably less. Lord Marshal Dreir is 25 cheaper too, so a list led by him and backed by a Deathstrike saves 45 before the Basilisks are counted. Infantry-heavy regiments gain less, since the cuts sit on the guns rather than the squads, but the small rises do not reach them either.
What got cheaper for the Astra Militarum in 11th edition?
The artillery and armour lead the savings. The Basilisk came down 25, the Deathstrike and the Field Ordnance Battery each dropped 20, and Lord Marshal Dreir shed 25. Eleven more sheets fell by smaller amounts. If you build around massed guns or an armoured spearhead, the cuts run through the fire-support core.
Is now a good time to start an Astra Militarum army?
A strong one. The tanks and guns a starter regiment is built around are cheaper, four new units widen the range, and the buy-models-and-shoot playstyle is as approachable as ever. The two new detachments give a first list more shapes to grow into. The Starting an Astra Militarum Army guide has a buying order.
