What changed for Adeptus Mechanicus in 11th edition

11th edition was a net cut for the Adeptus Mechanicus. Of the fifteen units that were repriced, twelve came down, with the Skitarii Hastarii and the Kastelan Robots among the standout drops, and only three crept up. Three new characters also join the roster, giving the Priesthood of Mars fresh options on top of a leaner points sheet.

Summary

Detachments

Army-building gains one line item: Detachment Points. Whichever detachment you run, it costs 3 at Strike Force, 2 at Incursion and 4 at Onslaught, paid out of the same total as your units, and the rate does not change from one detachment to the next. Beyond that fee the Mechanicus shelf only grew. Cohort Acquisitus, Lords of the Forge and Luminen Autochoir are new in 11th, and every 10th-edition option carries over with none removed. Choose first, pay the fee, then fill the cohort.

New in 11th: Cohort Acquisitus, Lords of the Forge, Luminen Auto-choir. Removed: Haloscreed Battle Clade.

Points changes

Fifteen units repriced, twelve of them downward. The biggest savings land on the Skitarii Hastarii: the Fusiliers drop 30 points and the Exterminators 20. Thulia Ghuld comes down 30 and the Kastelan Robots shed 20 for the pair, with the Cybernetica Datasmith that shepherds them 10 cheaper too. Only three units rose, all by small margins, and three new characters arrive that had no 10th-edition sheet. A few units are priced per squad size; price the size you field.

Biggest increases

Are Servitor Battleclade still worth it?

A 5-point rise on the nine-model unit, the mildest of the three increases. This has always been a support-bracket pick rather than a headline choice, so its case rests on the wider list rather than the raw cost. In a build that wants the extra bodies it is as valid as ever, and 5 points will not tip the decision either way.

Are Belisarius Cawl still worth it?

The largest single increase in the faction, up 10 points. That is a modest tax on one of the army's signature centrepieces, the kind of model you field because you want him leading the Priesthood rather than because the maths demands it. If Cawl earned his slot in your 10th-edition lists, the extra 10 changes nothing. It is a rounding error against everything he brings.

Frequently asked questions

Did the Adeptus Mechanicus get better in 11th edition?

On points, yes, and the shape of the cuts matters as much as the count. A Skitarii core of a Fusiliers squad, an Exterminators squad and a pair of Kastelans with their Datasmith is 80 points cheaper than the same units cost in 10th, which is room for more bodies. The three rises total 20 points across the whole faction, and none of them touches a Skitarii unit. What that does to win rates is a meta question; what it does to your list is more Skitarii.

What got cheaper for Adeptus Mechanicus in 11th edition?

The Skitarii Hastarii Fusiliers lead the way at 30 points off a five-model squad, with Thulia Ghuld also down 30. The Hastarii Exterminators drop 20, the Kastelan Robots come down 20 for the pair, and the Cybernetica Datasmith that supports them is 10 cheaper. Seven more units fell by smaller amounts, so a robots-and-Skitarii list saves on nearly every row.

What are the new Adeptus Mechanicus characters in 11th edition?

Three characters new to the roster: the Cohort Commander at 45 points, the Ironstrider Alpha at 80, and the Magos at 70. All three sit under 100 points, so any of them fits into a list that has already spent on Cawl. They give the Priesthood fresh leadership and support to build around alongside the returning line-up.

Is now a good time to start an Adeptus Mechanicus army?

A strong one. The Skitarii and robot units that a first collection is built from are cheaper, the detachment shelf has three fresh entries, and three new characters expand your options. A Fusiliers squad is 30 cheaper than it was, which is the first purchase most new Mechanicus players make. The Starting an Adeptus Mechanicus Army guide has a buying order.
